Meet Curley, The Cat From Hell!
Curley is the most vile, obnoxious and anti-social cat you will ever meet. I swear this cat is the spawn of the devil, straight from the depths of hell! Curley is my parents cat. He was born in their backyard about 8 years ago. Curley was the runt of the litter and had a severe eye infection and a respiratory infection. For some reason, my parents fell in love with this kitten, not just because they had a soft heart for hardluck cases, but also because he had a very curly tail...kinda made you wonder if he was part pig at times! Anyway, if he had been left alone, he would have died. Who would have known that the Vet would be in his office on a holiday??? :)
My mom nursed that cat back to health, going so far as to get up at 2am to bottle-feed him! And how does he repay this act of kindness??? He turns into an ungrateful psychotic ball of fur! Now don't get me wrong... I love cats. We had three up till a couple of weeks ago when our oldest cat Pete (16), had to be put down. We still have two other cats though. Cleo, who belonged to some relatives, came to stay with us "for a few weeks" due to neighbor problems...that was 5 years ago! :) Then there's Brownie, she kind of adopted us. We think she was abused, but with patience she will let you pet her now. But this page isn't about them....it's about Curley.
Curley has gained a reputation within the family and throughout the neighborhood as the cat you don't want. When anyone comes to visit, he runs for the livingroom couch and ducks behind it. Then he will hiss, spit and growl until the visitors have left. A couple of people won't come into the house unless they know he is in the back bedroom...preferably with the door closed! When my Mom passed away a few years ago, he got even meaner. There was no way my Dad was going to get rid of him. My sister, brother and I got to the point of plotting various demises for him, almost gleefully discussing the details. Of course, we never carried out any of these plots...he was our Dad's cat and he would have been heart broken if something were to have happened to Curley.
Towards the end of last year (1998), my Dad's health began to slip. I ended up making sure that Curley was fed, had fresh water and a clean litter box (when he felt like using it instead of the floor). You'd think that after three months of doing this, he'd be a little appreciative of my efforts...HA!!!!! All I ever got was the usual growl-hiss. At the end of December my Dad moved in with my brother and his family due to his health...he just could not take proper care of himself. As a result of this move, I took possession of the old homestead....and with it came Curley! Needless to say, the cat is not happy about the changes, and we are not particulary happy with the prosepect of spending any more time than is necessary with him, which leads to a now more than familiar refrain...
DIE CURLEY, DIE!!!!
What???? You're still here???? I ought to scratch your eyes out!!!!
